School's Out Double Feature!

Centre School, Marston School and Hampton Academy all have Tuesday, November 2 off for Election Day/Teacher Inservice. Swing by the library and stock up on books/dvds to keep the kiddies occupied and then join us in the afternoon for a double feature!

The Last Song (Rated PG) @ 3:00 p.m.

The Library Has a New Sign!

Thank you to the Friends of the Lane Memorial Library for the funding to allow us to replace the old, boring library sign on our front lawn with this fabulous new one! It includes a message board so we can better advertise our services, movies, book sales and other special events. The Friends raised over $1900 from last week's book sale, and this is the kind of thing that gets done with such funds. They are now on Facebook, too, so be sure to "Like" them if you are a Facebook user!

Mom's/Ladies' Night Out for October

Wednesday, October 27
5:30 p.m. (snacks)/5:45 p.m. (movie)

And the people have spoken! As the winner of September's vote, this month's movie will be "The Proposal" starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. This is one of those rare movies... a "romantic comedy" that's actually funny! We'd love to have you join us for the evening.

Mom's/Ladies' Night Out is a chance to get out of the house and have a good laugh with your friends (or make new ones)! We start snacking at 5:30 (and continue throughout the movie) and the movie starts at 5:45. Please call or stop by the Children's Room to reserve a seat (926-4729).

Also, feel free to bring snacks! I'm planning to make a batch of salsa - of course! - and something sweet - maybe pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. There's no telling what else I'll come up with between now and then! :)

"How to train your dragon" at Lane Library

Please join us Thursday, October 28th @ 5:30 PM, Saturday, October 30th @ 2:30 PM, and again on Tuesday, November 2nd @ 1:00 PM for a showing of How to Train Your Dragon in our Weston Theater. A winner with audiences and critics alike, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon rolls fire-breathing action, epic adventure and laughs into a captivating and original story. Hiccup is a young Viking who defies tradition when he befriends one of his deadliest foes – a ferocious dragon he calls Toothless. Together, the unlikely heroes must fight against all odds to save both their worlds in this “wonderful good-time hit!” (Gene Shalit, Today).

As a special Halloween matinee, we are also showing the new blu-ray version of Jim Henson's wonderful musical movie Labyrinth on Saturday, October 30th @ 12:30 PM. Featuring David Bowie as the Goblin King and a young Jennifer Connelly as the girl who wishes in a moment of anger that the goblins would take away her baby brother, this luminous tribute to the perils and joys of growing up has been a fan favorite for over two decades.

Both films are rated PG and admission is free. Drinks and popcorn are provided by the Friends of the Lane Library.

The Twilight Book Club reads "The Truth"

Join us on Tuesday, November 2nd at 6:30 PM to discuss Terry Pratchett's wonderfully funny novel The Truth. One of Britain's most popular satirical writers, Terry Pratchett in this installment of his fantasy "Discworld" series considers what happens when a new-fangled invention called a printing press turns a modest scribble sheet into a full-fledged newspaper - the Ank-Morpork Times (due to an unfortunate typo, the sub-head reads "The Truth Shall Make Ye Fret"). According to Publisher's Weekly, "Pratchett's witty reach is even longer than usual here, from Pulp Fiction to His Girl Friday. Readers who have never visited Discworld before may find themselves laughing out loud, even as they cheer on the good guys while longtime fans are sure to call this Pratchett's best one yet."

The Twilight Book Club is open to everyone, and copies of the book are now available at the circulation desk.
