Films in October - Weston Theater
Make plans to join us on Columbus Day, October 11th at 2:30 for a showing of the 2010 remake of the 1984 film The Karate Kid. Not just a re-tread, the new movie delivers "a viewing experience filled with action-packed martial arts scenes, great footage of China and its many wonders, and an absorbing story of a pre-adolescent boy's struggle to find his own inner strength ... What remains the same, and just as powerful, is the underlying story: a young boy moves to a new place where he feels isolated and is bullied by his peers. Through an unlikely relationship with an adult, the boy not only learns to protect himself through martial arts, but develops the much more important qualities of respect and the mastery of one's own mind and body." (Amazon - Tami Horiuchi). The film is rated PG.
On Thursday, October 14th at 5:45 and Saturday, October 16th at 2:00 PM we will feature the film Robin Hood (PG-13), with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. Told with more historical depth than your average "men in tights" movie, the movie features an older, more seasoned hero and is more concerned with portraying the royal intrigue that went into creating Robin Hood than in detailing the high jinks of the Nottingham outlaws. "In short, not a Gladiator re-do for Scott and Crowe, but a civilized tale of tyrants and rebels, staged in a pleasingly old-fashioned way." (Amazon -- Robert Horton)
Both movies are free and open to the public, with popcorn and drinks provided by the Friends of the Lane Memorial Library.
