Teen Summer Reading Program

Today marks the first day of programming for the Teen Summer Reading Program.  This year's line-up revolves around the national theme "Own the Night."

Here's the schedule (all programming in the Lane Room, unless otherwise noted):

Monday, June 25: Summer Reading Starts.  Teens may begin logging reading hours.  Reading logs are available at the Reference Desk, but you may keeping track on whatever scrap of paper is handy.

Tuesday, June 26, 3 p.m.: Welcome!  The program will be explained and we'll play the group game Werewolves.

Thursday, June 28, 3:30 p.m.: Youth Book Group. Come prepared to discuss whatever book you happen to be reading at the time.

Friday, June 29, 3 - 4:30 p.m.: Teen Gaming Afternoon with Stacy.  Bring friends!  We've got XBox 360, 4 controllers, 2 wireless steering wheels (for Forza 4!), Kinect, Rock Band instruments, and tons of games.  Feel free to bring your own games (rated T and under) to play with others.

Tuesday, July 24, 3 p.m.: Zombie Apocalypse Survival.  Decide on and compile what you would need to survive the Zombie Apocalypse.  Then put it to the test!

Friday, July 27, 3 - 4:30 p.m.: Teen Gaming Afternoon.  (And last day to earn and turn in raffle tickets!)

Tuesday, July 31, 3 p.m.: Summer Finale.  Kirsten's hair will be unveiled.*  Raffle prizes will be awarded, including the grand prize of a Nook Tablet!

*Kirsten's Attendance Challenge: Kirsten has agreed that if there are more than 5 teens at more than 5 of the Teen Summer Programs, she will dye her hair.  Each teen at a program with more than 5 attendees will get to vote for the color of their choice (orange, pink, or red).  Before the finale, she will announce whether or not this challenge has been met, and the new hair color will be unveiled at the finale on Tuesday, July 31.

Teens (incoming 7th graders and up) may earn a raffle ticket for every teen program that they attend. They may also earn a ticket for every hour that they read, log, and submit to Kirsten. An additional ticket may be earned if teens choose to write a review of a book that they read for the program, which will be posted in the Teen Section. The raffle will be drawn at the Finale on Tuesday, July 31. The last raffle entries will be accepted on Friday, July 27. Please see Kirsten @ the Reference Desk for a Reading Log and/or Teen Review Form and to sign up for programs.
