Academy Awards Film Festival - Week 3

Join us throughout February for our 2nd Annual Academy Awards Film Festival. We've chosen an array of classic films, including Westerns, dramas, musicals and comedies, each of which won one or more major Academy Award (Best Picture, Best Actor/Actress, Best Director). We're also trying out a new day/time for movies: Tuesday afternoon matinees. If this day/time is successful we will continue it throughout the year as a venue for classic movies!

The African Queen - Best Actor 1941, Humphrey Bogart
Not Rated (1 hour, 45 minutes)
Tuesday, February 19 @ 1 pm

In Africa during WW1, a gin-swilling riverboat owner/captain is persuaded by a strait-laced missionary to use his boat to attack an enemy warship.  Starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn.

Mrs. Miniver - Best Picture, 1942
Not Rated (2 hours, 14 minutes)
Thursday, February 21 @ 5:30 pm

Winner of six Academy Awards(R) including Best Picture, this memorable spirit-lifter about an idealized England that tends its prize-winning roses while confronting the terror of war struck a patriotic chord with American audiences and became 1942's #1 box-office hit. Greer Garson gives a formidable Oscar(R)-winning performance in the title role, comforting children in a bomb shelter, capturing an enemy parachutist and delivering an inspirational portrait of stiff-upper-lip British resolve. When Hitler did his worst, Mrs. Miniver did her best. Starring: Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon

The Godfather - Best Picture, 1972
Rated R (2 hours, 55 minutes)
Saturday, February 23 @ 1 pm

Popularly viewed as one of the best American films ever made, the multigenerational crime saga is a touchstone of cinema: one of the most widely imitated, quoted and lampooned movies of all time. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino star as Vito Corleone and his son, Michael, respectively.

Admission is FREE. Snacks and drinks are provided courtesy of the Friends of the Lane Memorial Library.
