Teen Summer Programs Week 1

I'm so excited that Summer Reading has started! I hope that you're talking to your teens about reading this summer. The Summer Slump is real and studies have shown that those who don't read over the summer can loose literacy skills.

The National Summer Learning Association states: "A conservative estimate of lost instructional time is approximately two months or roughly 22 percent of the school year."

Reading through our summer reading program helps with the Summer Slump and will enter teens in to raffles for great prizes every week and at our end of summer give away. Teens have until June 6th, our first drawing, to get a head start on their reading. Teens can submit what they've read online.

What's Going On This Summer?

Not sure where to start? Check out our Calendar. I'll be sending an update each week with the Children's Room letting you know what's going on.

Signing Up For Summer Reading

Teens can sign-up any time! Teens will get a Summer ID, the number they'll use each time they submit their reading logs for summer reading. Check with the Library after for signing up for your Summer ID number.

Programs, Programs, & More Programs!

  • Teen Summer Reading kicks off officially June 30th, 3:30-4:30 p.m. with a Summer Hair Wrap and Bracelet project in the Teen Area.
  • July 1st, 1:30-3:00 p.m. we'll be hosting the Center for Wildlife from Cape Neddick in the Lane Room. They'll be bringing their animal ambassadors and will talk about all the work they do at the Center and with wildlife. Open to those 10 and up.
  • July 2nd, 3:00-5:00 p.m. we'll host a Movie in the Teen Area with free popcorn.
Teens must be 11 years old to be entered for our drawings, however many of the programs I'm hosting this year are open for attendance by those 10 and older.
