Twilight Book Club reads "The Shipping News"

On Tuesday, July 1st at 6:30 PM, the Twilight Book Club will meet to discuss E. Annie Proulx's The Shipping News.

Proulx captures readers with mystery and empathy for her unlikely hero—insecure, clumsy Quoyle. As Quoyle adjusts to life in Newfoundland after the death of his wife, he sees that coming home isn’t only about the future, but about putting the past that haunts him to rest. Finally we see the chance and evolution of a happier life coming to someone who yearned for just that for so long.

According to critics, The Shipping News is “... an ingenious meld of history, biography, tragedy and sly humor; this novel glows with character and wisdom. No one breathes life into characters like Annie Proulx, who delivers us to Newfoundland—eerily remote, craggy and weather-beaten.
