The Flume: NH Teen Readers Choice Award

The votes for the first ever Flume award are in, and the winner, by an overwhelming majority, is Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. It seems the book that has become an international phenomenon has caught the attention of high school students across the state of New Hampshire, too. The runner-up for 2006 was one of New Hampshire's own: Jodi Picoult, for My Sister's Keeper.

Now that this year's voting is finished, it is time for Hampton students in grades 9-12 to get started on next year's list. All titles are available in the library, so start reading! Here are the Flume nominees for 2007:

Tithe by Holly Black
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
Haunted by Meg Cabot
The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen
Powder Monkey by Paul Dowswell
Looking for Alaska by John Green
Geography Club by Brent Hartinger
Velocity by Dean Koontz (shelved in adult fiction)
Twilight by Stephenie Meyers
Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson
The Burn Journals by Brent Runyon (nonfiction)
The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp by Rick Yancey
I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

Unless otherwise noted, all books are shelved either in the teen fiction area or in new teen fiction.
