Art Show for the Young and Hip

Coming Soon: “Art Show for the Young and Hip”

Who? Hampton residents and non-resident Hampton students ages 11-25
What? Paintings and drawings. All should be matted or framed and ready to hang, via either a single metal hook or multiple small plastic holders. Limit of one piece per artist for the official contest; additional pieces possible for display.
When? Art work may be dropped off in the children’s room during normal library hours October 11, 2006 through October 18, 2006. NOTE: Submission period has been extended through Thursday, October 26th. Bring that artwork in!
Where? Lane Memorial Library, Wheaton J. Lane Room

Exhibition dates: October 19, 2006-December 13, 2006 in the Lane Meeting Room
Opening Night Reception: Thursday, October 19, 2006, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Throughout the exhibition, visitors will be invited to vote (one time per person, please) for their favorite piece in three age categories: 11-14-year-olds, 15-19-year-olds, and 20-25-year-olds. Artists who obtain the most votes in their age category will receive a $50 gift certificate to Brush & Palette in North Hampton. All participants will also have a chance at a raffle prize. During the closing night of the show, December 13, 2006, we will tally the votes and draw for the raffle.

Book Groups

The library's book groups for elementary and middle school students are now underway. The fall schedule is as follows:
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders meet every other Thursday at 4:00 p.m. The next book group meeting will be on Thursday, September 28th.
  • Middle schoolers (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) meet on the fourth Monday of each month at 3:00 p.m. The first book group meeting for the fall will be next Monday, September 25th.
Both groups offer an informal, relaxed setting and a fun way to share books with other readers. Newcomers are welcome. Please talk to Cheryl in the children's room to learn more: 926-4729.
