Library to dedicate room to Redden

The Lane Memorial Library will be rededicating a room in the historic 1910 library building in remembrance of its late director, Catherine Redden, on Saturday January 9th at 11 a.m.

The Dearborn Redden room is an elegant quiet study room that holds the library's large print collection. During Redden's tenure as director she dedicated her time and effort to making the then Dearborn Room into a pleasant, functional reading area. Gifts donated to the library since her passing have been used to continue this work.

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Kid Matinees: Tinker Bell and Night at the Museum 2

Calling all kids and their grown ups:

You won't want to miss this duo of popular, recently-released DVDs showing in the Lane Room during holiday break:

On Tuesday, Dec. 29th at 10 a.m., return to the enchantment of Pixie Hollow in the Disney film Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure.

When a rare magic moonstone is accidentally smashed, will Tinker Bell be able to save the day--and her friendship with Terrence? Gorgeous animation, a great story, and lively music make this a wonderful pick for preschoolers and older elementary school kids alike.

It is rated G and runs 76 minutes.

On Wednesday, Dec. 30th at 2 p.m., join in the hilarious mayhem of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. When museum guard Larry Daley travels to the largest museum in the world, he has no idea he's going to meet with an evil pharaoh, deal with meddling monkeys--or fall in love with Amelia Earhart. You won't want to miss the fun!

It is rated PG and runs 105 minutes.

We will provide snacks, so all you need to do is come and enjoy the surround sound and crystal-clear picture of our new Weston Theater. Feel free to bring a snuggly blanket or favorite stuffed animal.

Please note that children in first grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult throughout their library visit. Children in grades two and three must have an adult remain in the building during their stay. Children in fourth grade and above may responsibly visit the library by themselves.

"Harry Potter" December 10th @ 6:00 PM

On Thursday, December 10th at 6 PM the library will be showing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in our new Weston Theater. Following the adventures of the most famous boy wizard in the world, this film is a bit more 'grown up' in tone, introducing a darker and more dangerous and scary world for our young heroes to confront in their quest to defeat Lord Voldemort. Featuring great performances, a gripping story line true to the spirit of the original books, and the wonderful special effects that are a hallmark of the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is sure to give a welcome time-out during this busy holiday season.

The movie is free and open to the public, with popcorn and drinks provided by the Friends of the Lane Memorial Library.
