Come meet Petey at the library

Please join us downstairs at Lane Library on Monday, October 1st from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to meet Petey, the Children's Room latest 'addition.' Petey is a fox terrier and a certified pet therapy animal children can read to in order to practice their skills or just have a new furry friend who enjoys stories. He is a great listener, and so cute!

This is also a great opportunity to ask questions of Petey's owner Bess, find out how the reading program works, and to sign up for "Reading Time with Petey."  Spaces are limited for the reading program itself, but this initial "meet Petey" time is open to all.  Please call the Children's Room at 926-4729 if you have any questions.

Petey and Bess look forward to meeting you.

Nature photographer Terry Walker to discuss his work

On Saturday, September 22 from 3 to 5 PM, nature photographer Terry Walker will showcase and discuss some of his most beautiful and beguiling images. Now in his sixties, Walker has over the past 30 years built up a distinguished portfolio of abstract, jewel-like color close-ups. His work has been exhibited in galleries across the nation, and can be found in the permanent collections of prominent private and corporate collectors.

Beginning in 1978 when a selection of his early work was singled out by Ansel Adams for publication in the book Ansel Adams Polaroid Land Photography, Walker went on to develop his own unique style and focus, preferring to work with the miniature wonders of nature rather than Adams' grand vistas. A featured NikonNet photographer, Walker still uses a trusted Nikon film camera and the natural light in the wild to produce his images. As he says, "I love wild places. They penetrate my soul and uplift my spirit like nothing else on Earth."

Walker's session will be limited to 15 participants, so we encourage those interested in attending to call the library and register (603-926-3368). If more than 15 sign up, Walker will present a second session on the following Saturday. His work can be previewed at http://www.terrywalkerphotography.com/

Friends of the Library Annual Meeting

The Friends of the Lane Memorial Library will hold their Annual Meeting on Tuesday September 11, 2007, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Lane Room of the library on Academy Avenue in Hampton. This is the time of year that current Friends renew their memberships, officers are elected, the previous year’s work is reviewed and of course, new members are invited to join!  Libraries are vital local resources for literacy, learning, and community-building. Public libraries need volunteers, friends, and advocates! The Friends of the Lane Memorial Library is a non-profit organization that supports the library in a variety of ways. If you would like to get involved in supporting the library there are many ways to get involved. For more information on how to join or read our newsletters, visit the Friends website
